The Ukrainian Music Festival (UMF) is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1970 by Marta Krawciw-Barabash, Joanna Kushpeta and Olena Borys in Toronto, Ontario. It began as an annual festival that provided an opportunity for young musicians of varying cultural backgrounds to perform pieces by Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian composers and learn more about music and Ukrainian culture.
Currently, the festival continues to promote Ukrainian culture through the preservation and dissemination of Ukrainian music among our local communities. Zoloti Struny have been participating in these festivals every year for almost 20 years. Our students have been adjudicated by many renowned bandura professionals.
The Ukrainian Music Festival offers scholarships to students scoring high in their age and instrument categories provided by UMF and local businesses committed to preserving Ukrainian culture. These students are invited to perform at the Gala Showcase Concert on the day following their competitions.
